A Birthday Bouquet

A Birthday Bouquet was written by Betty Roe to celebrate Sir Lennox Berkeley's 80th birthday (12 May 1983).  Betty Roe had briefly studied composition with Lennox Berkeley.

It is scored for full orchestra with percussion.

1. Introduction (Little Venice)

2. Greeting (Little Nonsense)

The first section is in a brisk 3/2 giving a lilt to the music.   A celesta/glockenspiel adds sparkle to the water.

After an oboe cadenza, with the final note of a descending scale cheekily played (two octaves below) by the bassoon,

a steady build up leads to the players rising from their seats to sing "Happy Birthday Dear Lennox", followed by orchestrated merriment.

The work is unpublished.
